What attracts mosquitoes?
Breath: mosquitoes are attracted by two factors in our breath, octenol and CO2. Candles or fire are also sources of CO2 and therefore attractive to mosquitoes.
Sweat: mosquitoes are attracted to lactic acid. This is a waste substance of the body that is transported through our sweat. So while sweating, you create this attraction factor.
Body heat: mosquitoes can detect body heat through their sensors, and when close to the body, they can detect our veins.
Moisture: Because mosquitoes breed in water, they are always attracted by this, even when the quantities are very small. This means that both breath, sweat and moisture on the skin attract mosquitoes.
Motion: because mosquitoes quickly detect changes in light around objects, they can easily detect victims in motion.
Dark colours: Dark colours are known to attract mosquitoes.
